Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Group
Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a colorful mix of heroes, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Revealing details for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The third episode ended with a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of heroes who will branch out from the central cast to begin their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be impossible.
Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.
What Defines the Combat Party
As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.
Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might appear unsuited, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
First, the party knows exactly where to go next after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose passing started the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the powerful objects to auction.
The traitor then settled his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:
- Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants revenge.
- The adventurer is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a hostile location.
- The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- However, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could enable the group enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:
- Thimble and The hero are known criminals.
- Tyranny and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.
This means them little choice but to journey toward the northern region in quest for the traitor.
What’s Next?
From the latest episode’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the other eight cast members to assemble the Explorers and Planners tables.
Viewers can expect learning which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
